A film by Manuel Stagars http://www.blockchain-documentary.com In 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto invented bitcoin and the blockchain. • What is blockchain? - World Economic Forum

A blockchain is a distributed database that is used to maintain a continuously growing list of records, called blocks. Each block contains a timestamp and a link to a previous block. A blockchain is typically managed by a peer-to-peer network collectively adhering to a protocol for validating new blocks. By design, blockchains are inherently resistant to modification of the data. Once recorded, the data in any given block cannot be altered retroactively without the alteration of all subsequent blocks and the collusion of the network. Functionally, a blockchain can serve as "an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way. The ledger itself can also be programmed to trigger transactions automatically." Blockchai...

Mexico currently stands in fifth place in terms of countries receiving the most remittances in the world, with an inflow of US$24,231 million (4.2% of the global total). A significant percentage of the income from remittances is lost in very high fees and commissions charged by remittance companies to migrants with low wages. We will use blockchain technology to reduce the cost of sending money for migrants. So that money is invested locally in their communities triggering growth and development in Mexico and LATAM. HOW? Replacing compensation chambers with digital asset exchanges such as isbit.co , for example. The alternative process we propose for cross border payments is the followin...

A block chain is a transaction database shared by all nodes participating in a system based on the Bitcoin protocol. A full copy of a currency's block chain contains every transaction ever executed in the currency. With this information, one can find out how much value belonged to each address at any point in history. ------------------------------------------------------------------- BUY BITCOIN SAFELY HERE: http://bit.ly/BuyBitcoinNow ------------------------------------------------------------------- REGISTER FOR A COINBASE ACCOUNT: http://bit.ly/CoinbaseBitcoinSignup ------------------------------------------------------------------- Every block contains a hash of the previous block. This has the effect of creating a chain of blocks from the genesis block to the current block. Each block is guaranteed to come after the previous block chronologically because the previous block's hash would otherwise not be known. Each block is also computationally impractical to modify once it has been in the chain for a while because every block after it would also have to be regenerated. These properties are what make double-spending of bitcoins very difficult. The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. Honest generators only build onto a block (by referencing it in blocks they create) if it is the latest block in the longest valid chain. "Length" is calculated as total combined difficulty of that chain, not number of blocks, though this distinction is only important in the context of a few potential attacks. A chain is valid if all of the blocks and transactions within it are valid, and only if it starts with the genesis block. For any block on the chain, there is only one path to the genesis block. Coming from the genesis block, however, there can be forks. One-block forks are created from time to time when two blocks are created just a few seconds apart. When that happens, generating nodes build onto whichever one of the blocks they received first. Whichever block ends up being included in the next block becomes part of the main chain because that chain is longer. More serious forks have occurred after fixing bugs that required backward-incompatible changes. Blocks in shorter chains (or invalid chains) are not used for anything. When the bitcoin client switches to another, longer chain, all valid transactions of the blocks inside the shorter chain are re-added to the pool of queued transactions and will be included in another block. The reward for the blocks on the shorter chain will not be present in the longest chain, so they will be practically lost, which is why a network-enforced 100-block maturation time for generations exists. These blocks on the shorter chains are often called "orphan" blocks. This is because the generation transactions do not have a parent block in the longest chain, so these generation transactions show up as orphan in the listtransactions RPC call. Several pools have misinterpreted these messages and started calling their blocks "orphans". In reality, these blocks have a parent block, and might even have children. Because a block can only reference one previous block, it is impossible for two forked chains to merge. • How do Bitcoin Transactions Work? http://www.coindesk.com/information/how-do-bitcoin-transactions-work/ ------------------------------------------------------------------- DID YOU LIKE THIS VIDEO? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy this video? The ledger itself can also be programmed to trigger transactions automatically." Blockchains are secure by design and are an example of a distributed computing system with high Byzantine fault tolerance. Decentralized consensus can therefore be achieved with a blockchain. This makes blockchains potentially suitable for the recording of events, medical records, and other records management activities, identity management, transaction processing, and documenting provenance. The first blockchain was conceptualised by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008 and implemented the following year as a core component of the digital currency bitcoin, where it serves as the public ledger for all transactions. The invention of the blockchain for bitcoin made it the first digital currency to solve the double spending problem, without the use of a trusted authority or central server. The bitcoin design has been the inspiration for other applications. Discover the Exciting World of the 21st Century. Visit https://isbit.co ! A case for a blockchain based approach to remittances in Mexico... The alternative process we propose for cross border payments is the following: STEP 1: USD deposited in digital asset exchange in North America (coinbase.com) STEP 2: USD used to buy BTC (BITCOIN) STEP 3: BTC sent to digital asset exchange in mexico (isbit.co) . This costs less than a cent and the money is settled in 10 minutes. STEP 4: BTC are sold at mexican digital asset exchange STEP 5: MXN withdrawal is made using local wire transfer infrastructure or a cash out at our network of ispos.mx afiliated merchants is made. We have really worked hard in creating a streamlined graphical user interfaces that bring the power of a bitcoin to common people. We also have an open API that allows participants programmatic access to all the exchange information to place orders , manage their account, deposit or withdraw funds , and consume information about prices and the market. Our powerful API will allow banks, remittance companies , payment processors, and other financial institutions to replace some legacy processes with much more efficient processes. For example a remittance rails could be built on top of our API allowing remittance companies bypass compensation chambers or automatic clearing houses and their associated high costs and delays. We have developed artificial intelligence monitoring solutions that help us mitigate operational, market, solvency and fraud risk.

You'll notice the comment about Bank of America using smart contract development http://www.coindesk.com/ethereum-stole-show-microsofts-new-york-city-demo-day/ Why is Microsoft so interested.... well because they have their foot in the door on Ethereum https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/ethereum-blockchain-as-a-service-now-on-azure/ Ethereum hit $70 for the first time in history and it's got a lot of weight behind it to drive it up much further. Bitcoin has the brand and a number of financial backers. Will it one day be running within the Ethereum machine ?? There will be competitors and one of them is NEM that the Japanese gov/institutions are behind. It's also a smart contract app system using blockchain. It's only at 5 cents but there are way more of them. Do you think it will continue on it's upward trend as well? This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
